Baby Products Every Parent of a 1-Year-Old Needs

You’ve made it through the first year of parenting, and boy has it been a bunch of ups and downs. From sleep deprivation and constant worrying to precious moments and tons of laughs, you’ve gone through a lot the past 12 months. If you thought that the first year was something else, wait until you’ve gone through the next year. Your little one is going to grow and develop so much with each passing day. While you might like the idea of freezing time, all you can really do is be prepared.

Though no parent is ever truly prepared for raising a one-year-old, there are some products on the market that can make your job a bit easier.

Big Boy or Girl Cup

No more bottles around the house, it’s time for your baby to start drinking from a cup. As transitioning from a bottle to a traditional drinking cup can be difficult (and a mess), it’s probably a good idea to purchase a cup for toddlers. If you do an online search you can find some of the best sippy cups reviewed to choose from. Here are some factors you want to consider as you shop:

  • Materials used (plastic or glass)
  • Spout type (valve or straw)
  • Designs (color, characters, handles)
  • Hazards
  • Ease of use
  • Easy maintenance

Training Pants or Undergarments

Another thing your kid will be saying goodbye to over the next few months is diapers. It is during this age that most children are ripe for potty training. In order to make it easier for them to use the restroom, you’ll need to switch from diapers to training pants or undergarments. Regular underwear would require you to do a lot of cleaning up if your toddler doesn’t make it in time, so it’s best to purchase plastic training pants. Like diapers, they are disposable and designed to absorb pee and poop when they can’t make it to the bathroom. However, they pull down easily like underwear to make it easy for your toddler to go when they need to.

A Potty

Due to height and size going to an adult bathroom can present a bunch of challenges for your little one. You can decrease these challenges by investing in a potty made especially for them. There are a ton of these on the market. Some look like a traditional toilet and are very basic in design while others are more enticing for kids. You can opt for a potty that plays music or even has their favorite character on it.

Babyproofing Gadgets

If you haven’t done so already, you need to babyproof your home. Your toddler is going to be doing a lot of exploring which means they won’t sit still for very long. As they go from crawling to walking and even running, you want to make sure they’re safe. You can purchase gates to seal off areas they shouldn’t have access to as well as gadgets like electrical socket plugs and cabinet locks.

The next 12 months are going to be quite adventurous. Your baby is now at a stage where they’re becoming more independent and want to see what the world is like for themselves. As you watch them running around the house, drinking from a big boy (or girl) cup, and using the potty, having the right products on hand can make each of them a lot easier. As for the increased energy, defiance, and sometimes moodiness, unfortunately, you’ll have to figure out that part of it on your own.
